Chapter
9
The
next day, James and Janie met Meowth and the three of
them made their way to the hospital, only to find Jessie standing outside
shouting I win, I win to a very angry looking nurse.
“My
life is officially more exciting than yours,” she squeaked. Janie ran over to
her, feeling nothing but pure happiness well up inside her.
“Crushed
her then,” she smiled.
“You
bet I did,” Jessie said triumphantly. “Where have you been for the past two days?”
She asked turning to James as he walked up to her beaming.
“Oh,
Jessie, he came down with the worst case of flew you could possibly imagine,”
Janie quickly put in.
“Yeah,
I’m better now though,” he grinned.
“Yeah whatever,” Jessie dismissed him and instantly
began to walk in the direction of the restaurant.
“We
hate you, get over it!” Cassidy yelled from behind the bars of Officer Jenny’s
van.
“I
can’t believe you tried to kill us,” James said angrily, “setting a bomb in a restaurant, I swear you were pokemon
thieves, not murderers.”
“We’re
damn site better pokemon thieves than you,” Butch
sniggered sitting next to Cassidy in the van, “we just decided to do the boss a
favour and get rid of you.”
“After
all,” Cassidy started, “he has done us so many favours,
for example, bailing us out of jail so many times.”
Jessie
growled softly at this.
“Well,
you failed miserably because, as you can see, Jessie and James are still
standing,” Janie bragged.
“After
all that spying day and night and figuring out where to plant that bomb too,”
Cassidy moaned.
“Why
didn’t you just plant the bomb in our flat?” James pondered.
“Are
you mad? And kill everyone else in their own homes, babies could be living
there,” Butch said.
“I
suppose…” James agreed.
“Who
caught them anyway, they deserve thanks,” Janie smiled as Officer Jenny hopped
into the driver’s seat of her van.
“Who
do you think, Ash, Misty, Brock and that Pikachu,”
Jenny grinned
“What!?” Jessie, James Janie and Meowth
cried in unison as the van drove away, with Butch and Cassidy yelling in the
back, “Looks like we’re carted off again!” James quivered with anger at the
thought of Team Twerp (Ash, Misty, Brock).
“Oh,
they’re such goody two shoes’!” he cried. Janie just smiled at him knowingly.
She knew they had to be thanked.
They
found them sitting on a bench in the local park feeding their pokemon, laughing as Togepi made
cute faces after every bite. Janie swallowed hard and took Jessie and James in
each arm, urging them to follow her. The three of them walked reluctantly to
the bench with Meowth following close behind. Misty
was the first to look up from, her face falling when she saw who they were.
“I
thought we’d seen the last of you!” She scowled.
“We
haven’t come to cause any trouble,” said Janie, “or to take your precious Ash
away!”
“Yeah,
that’s right,” James added, “we’ve come to…to thank you actually.”
“Thank
us?” Ash asked, looking up from Togepi.
“Yes,
we thought it would be impolite not to, “Jessie smiled, “after all, you put
Butch and that bitch Cassidy back in Jail.” There was a short silence where
they all just stared at each other, waiting for someone to say something. The
six very different teenagers were all thinking very different thinks on this
one very awkward occasion. The silence, and the thoughts,
were broken by James, stating the obvious…
“Someone
should say thank you, I guess,” he said. Jessie, agreeing silently in her head,
took a deep breath before muttering a thank you.
“What
was that?” Ash grinned cheekily.
“I
said thank you, OK?” Jessie scowled, embarrassed and angry.
“I’m
sorry, I didn’t quite catch that…”
“Don’t
play games with me, twerp, I said fucking thank you!” Jessie screamed as the
world went red before her eyes.
“Yeah,
thanks from me too,” Janie added.
“And
me,” James made himself say.
“Well,
if that’s all guys…” Brock sneered at them.
Jessie,
James, Janie and Meowth turned away slowly and began
to walk away. Their slow walk developed into a sprint as their need to get home
became stronger.
They
arrived at Jessie and James’ flat completely out of breath and collapsed on
various bits off furniture glad to be home,
“Dat was an experience I could have done without,” Meowth breathed.
“You
can say that again, they all think they are so great, especially Ketchem,” Janie stated, sounding rather like a spiteful
school girl, and she knew it too!
“You didn’t say anything anyway, Meowth,” said James shortly, “you just left us to embarrass
ourselves!”
The
next few days passed by relatively quickly, with Janie practically living with
Jessie and James, they all got on like one big happy family! No one spoke of
the bomb, the bombers or Team Twerp, unless it was during planning to capture Pikachu. It was about two weeks after Jessie had been
discharged from the ward that Janie actually went back to her hotel room! Only
to find all her belongings outside it and the locks changed.
“What
do you mean I’ve stayed my welcome, what have I done?” She screamed, staring at
the manager coldly. He explained how she’s never home and home she was always
late paying rent as she gasped at the ridiculousness of it.
“What
are you talking about? I can choose when I go out and I…” His face stopped her
in her tracks, as it was clear that whatever she said or did wasn’t going to
change his mind. “Where am I going to live now?” She pleaded.
“Sorry,
love, that’s not my problem,” he snorted and walked off down the corridor.
Janie knew she couldn’t stay with Jessie and James because it would cramp their
style plus there was no room for a long-term house guest. She grabbed her suit
cases and dragged them out into the street. Ten minutes later, she was knocking
on the one door she never in a million years thought she would be knocking on.
She flinched when the door opened and a shocked Ash Ketchem
appeared behind it, with an angry looking Pikachu on
his shoulder. Janie smiled weakly, unable to speak as her throat felt clogged
up with embarrassment.
“What
are you doing here and what are those bags for?” Came
Ash’s voice suddenly. Janie smiled again and explained the events of the
previous hour. Ash’s shocked face turned to horror when he realised
what she was asking of him and quickly shook his head.
“Please,
I’ve nowhere else,” Janie gasped.
“You
never seem to have anywhere else these days, “said Ash, staring at the floor,
“what am I, a last resort?”
“Well,
yes, but it doesn’t been I don’t need you,”
“To
humiliate,” Ash finished.
“Yup,
you…” Janie stopped when she realised that this was
the wrong way to go about asking someone for help. “Please,” she begged.
“Well,
OK, but Misty’s not gonna
like it,” he said weakly.
Wow,
that was easy, thought Janie as she walked through the door.
