Chapter Four -
This is US!
"We're back
home!" Katie cried, hugging Ryer happily.
"And so are
we!" James wailed from behind her. Everyone turned to see the eighteen
year old Jesse and James sitting on the floor.
"We're in
the future!" Jesse wailed. "Oh! How could this happen!"
"With a Time
Machine." Meowth said sarcastically.
"Oh shut up
you stupid furball!"
"I guess
you're stuck here until the future Meowth can dry off this time machine."
Ruka said, pointing to the original contraption sitting on the table where the
group had abruptly landed. The machine was still dripping with cola.
"Come
on." Ryer said. "We might as well introduce you to your future
selves."
"Mooom!"
Ruka called. "We're back from the past!"
"Again?"
Jesse heard her own voice filter down from the upper level. "Did you bring
anything with you this time?"
"Um....well
you see, we sort of accidentally brought you and dad when you were
eighteen." Ryer called.
"WHAT?!"
the future Jesse yelled down. At that moment an older taller version of James
gropped his way into the kitchen. After stumbling blindly into a couple of
chairs he grabbed a hold of Ryer's head from behind.
"Ruka?"
he guessed.
"Ryer."
He son corrected him. "Dad? What are you doing?"
"Looking for
my glasses." the older James replied. "Have you seen them?"
"On your
head Mr. J." Nina said, walking casually past him and picking up an apple
from the bowl on the counter. Future James reached up onto his head and pulled
down a pair of rounded rectangular glasses. He set them on his nose.
"Thank you
Nina." He sighed and turned to face Ruka and Ryer. And screamed. In a
flash he was hanging off the ceiling light fixture, pointing at his younger
self from the past. "M....mm...m...m..." He stuttered.
"Me?"
James prompted.
"Yeah."
his older self said, nodding.
"They
accidentally came back with us from the past." Ryer explained.
"Why didn't
you tell me that?" Future James cried and dropped to the floor.
"You're
pretty clutzy you know." James stated to his older incarnation. The other
looked him right in the eyes. "Here's some news. I'm you."
"Oh
yeah." James got a pondering look on his face.
"You're real
fraidy cat you know that?" said an all too familiar voice. The future
Meowth jumped down from the cupboard onto the windowsill over the kitchen sink.
"And blind as a bat when you don't have those glasses." he teased the
older James.
"Shut up you
miserable furball!" the future James growled. Grabbing a paper weight from
the kitchen table he hurled it angrily at the Pokemon. Meowth ducked.
There was a
shatter of glass as the paper weight went crashing through the window pane.
Everyone froze.
"What was
that!" Jesse heard herself screaming from upstairs.
"Uh...nothing!"
the older James yelled.
"For nothing
it sounded a hell of alot like a paper weight breaking my kitchen window."
The older Jesse stalked into the kitchen.
"James, when
are you going to learn that cats duck." she sighed, then turned around.
"Hey. You
really did bring us in from the past. Cool!"
